Archives For Blogging

We found out a couple of months ago that we are going to be moving. With a senior in high school and another right behind him, the timing is horrible. My wife didn’t feel like she could turn this job down. We managed to stay in the same house for 14 years.

Our house wasn’t ready to go on the market, so I’ve been spending a lot of time getting it ready to sell. Combine remodeling with taking care of kids and all the other household stuff, and it leaves little time for AFM.

Anyway, AFM’s not going away. I’m just too busy to even think about blogging. I have come across great material recently but haven’t had the time to post about it. I do have one post in the works that will blow your mind (at least I think it will).

Take care and please remember my family and me in your prayers.

AFM Inflation Project

May 20, 2013

Tell me, what do you guys think about starting an inflation project?

Here’s what I have in mind:

Readers from different parts of the country (North East, East, South East, North Central, Central, South Central, North West, West, and South West) track a small number of goods (mostly grocery items) and report the numbers to me and I’ll put them in a spreadsheet for everyone to see.

Why would we do this?

Because I think the government’s numbers are fiction.

So, what do you think? Interested?

Today’s the last day to sign up to win a copy of “20,000 Days and Counting.”

To enter, go here.

I’ll announce the winners tomorrow morning.

Good luck!

UPDATE: What I’m Up To

March 18, 2013

I’ve been working on a retirement withdrawal post. The results are interesting. I’ll post the findings hopefully tomorrow.

Meanwhile, stay tuned…

The randomly-selected winner of the latest AFM giveaway was…

Commenter #10, Bob.

Congratulations to Bob! I’ll be sending Bob an email.

For the rest of you: stay tuned. More giveaways to come.

Larry Swedroe sent me an email this weekend about his new book. I downloaded a copy from Amazon and gave it a quick read (it’s a fairly small book at 160 pages). It’s not your typical Warren Buffett book. Larry uses Bueffett’s own words to illustrate the importance of passive investing. Those who think this will be a stock-picker’s book will be disappointed.

Regardless, I thought it was worth sharing through a giveaway.

Here’s your chance to win your very own copy. Just leave a comment below to let me know you’re in. I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday morning. Please be mindful of my two rules:

1. You must be a residend of North America (I won’t ship internationally).

2. You can only enter one time.

BY THE WAY… I’m hoping to score an interview with Larry. If you have an investing/financial planning question for him, please send it to me via email (JLP – at – with “Question for Larry Swedroe” in the subject line. I’ll pass along as many as I can for Larry to answer (assuming he has time to get to them).

Have a great week!
