Scott over at MoneyBloggerPodcast has posted his interview with Rachel Kesel, founder of The Compact. What’s “The Compact” you ask? Well, according to their website:

We are a group of individuals committed to a 12-month flight from the consumer grid (calendar year 2007).

The Compact has several aims (more or less prioritized below):

  • To go beyond recycling in trying to counteract the negative global environmental and socioeconomic impacts of disposable consumer culture and to support local businesses, farms, etc. — a step that, we hope, inherits the revolutionary impulse of the Mayflower Compact.
  • To reduce clutter and waste in our homes (as in trash Compact-er).
  • To simplify our lives (as in Calm-pact)

We’ve agreed to follow two principles (see exceptions etc. on our blog).

#1 Don’t buy new products of any kind (from stores, web sites, etc.)
#2 Borrow, barter, or buy used.

I’m not knocking it, but I don’t think this is a group I could ever be a part of. But, to each his/her own. I understand about over-commercialization and I think we do need to take a step back and relax. However, I don’t see how “not buying new products” accomplishes this. Also, borrowing and bartering would not simplify my life.

Just a reminder that Scott over at MoneyBloggerPodcast has posted his latest podcast, an interview with mapgirl from mapgirl’s Fiscal Challenge. I just finished listening to the interview. I thought mapgirl did a great job. She didn’t sound nervous at all.

Also, I wanted to mention that I received an email from Scott last week telling me that he is going to be making some changes to his blog. He is going to start interviewing various authors and columnists in the personal finance field. I think this is a good move and should make for some great listening.

As I write this, I’m listening to the Vanguard “Plain Talk On Investing” podcast. This particular podcast is targeted at younger people, which I think is great. You can listen to the podcast online or you can download it to your iPod.

Good stuff.

I haven’t posted a reminder about the MoneyBloggerPodcast in quite a while. Scott has been doing an excellent job interviewing lots of bloggers. This week’s interview is with Kira at PennyFoolish. I like putting a voice with the blogger! Kira even said some nice things about me, which I thought was sweet. It’s nice to be appreciated!

So go check out MoneyBloggerPodcast.

This week’s MoneyBloggerPodcast interview is with Amanda from Young and Broke, who was also my Blog of the Week back in April. It is a good interview. If you listen real close you can hear Scott’s little boy yelling in the background. LOL! I was laughing about that. Ah, the joys of parenthood!

This week, Scott at MoneyBloggerPodcast interviews Jane Dough of BostonGal’sOpenWallet. I have really enjoyed listening to the interviews of different personal finance bloggers.

This week Scott at MoneyBloggerPodcast interviews JLP at AllThingsFinancial. Wait a minute! That’s me!

Anyway, Scott was an excellent host and I had a lot of fun doing the podcast. Hopefully you guys won’t hold it against me.
